The reverse, designed by Jody Clark, portrays the Yale with its distinctive prominent horns, while Clark also created the royal portrait on the obverse. The Yale is a mythical beast traditionally described as having independently swivelling horns; its royal heraldic connection passed through Lady Margaret Beaufort to her son, Henry VII. Inspired by the ten heraldic statues displayed for Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 coronation, the Yale was the sixth design in the series.
