The 1820 Gold Half Sovereign is the final issue of this denomination from the reign of George III. Its obverse carries the King’s right-facing laureate portrait, while the reverse shows a crowned shield of the Royal Arms. Both designs are by Benedetto Pistrucci. Struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold with a fineness of .9167, this coin belongs to the New Coinage introduced after the Great Recoinage of 1816, which restored the sovereign and half sovereign to British currency. It is certified NGC MS62 and catalogued by Spink as S.3786.
