Gold 50 Peso (Random Year)

The Gold 50 Peso (Random Year), known as the Mexican Centenario, is a 0.900-fine gold bullion coin containing 1.2057 troy ounces of gold. First issued in 1921, the series marked the centenary of the completion of Mexico’s War of Independence. The obverse shows Winged Victory holding a laurel wreath and broken chains, with the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes behind. Mexico’s coat of arms appears on the reverse, depicting an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak. Original issues were dated from 1921 to 1947, with later restrikes carrying the 1947 date.
