The Gold Sovereign is a British bullion coin from the first portrait group of Queen Elizabeth II sovereigns, issued between 1957 and 1968. Its obverse carries Mary Gillick’s portrait of the Queen wearing a laurel wreath, known as the Gillick Head. Struck in 22-carat gold at The Royal Mint’s Tower Hill site in London, the coin weighs approximately 7.98 grams and has a fineness of 916.7. The reverse uses Benedetto Pistrucci’s 1817 design of St George slaying the dragon.
