The 2009 Gold Proof Sovereign is a £1 British coin struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold. Its reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic Saint George slaying the dragon design, first introduced in 1817. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II’s fourth definitive coinage portrait, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. This proof Sovereign has the standard weight of 7.98 grams, a diameter of 22.05 millimetres and a gold fineness of 91.67%.
