Description
The 1999 Gold Proof Sovereign is a British £1 coin struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold. Its reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic Saint George slaying the dragon design, first introduced on the sovereign in 1817. The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, introduced to British coinage in 1998. This proof sovereign has the standard weight of 7.98 grams and measures 22.05 millimetres in diameter.
