Description
The 1996 Gold Proof Sovereign is a £1 British coin struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold. Its reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s Saint George slaying the dragon, a design first introduced on the sovereign in 1817. With a standard weight of 7.98 grams and a diameter of 22.05 millimetres, this proof sovereign has a fineness of 91.67%. It was struck at The Royal Mint’s Llantrisant facility in Wales.
