The 1817 Gold Half Sovereign forms part of the New Coinage introduced after the Great Recoinage of 1816, which reintroduced the sovereign and half sovereign to British currency. Struck in 22-carat gold with a fineness of .9167, it features the laureate head of King George III facing right and a crowned shield of the Royal Arms. Benedetto Pistrucci designed both sides of the coin. This example is certified PCGS MS63.
