Description
The 2016 1oz Gold The Queen's Beasts Lion of England is the first of ten designs in The Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts series. Its reverse shows the crowned Lion of England holding a shield bearing the Arms of the United Kingdom. Jody Clark designed both the Lion reverse and the obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Struck in 999.9 fine gold and denominated at £100, this example is certified PCGS MS69. The series draws on the ten stone heraldic statues sculpted by James Woodford for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1953.
